The President of the Board of ACAP RM, Elena Panainte,  and the Executive Director, Natalia Zlatina, held a constructive meeting with Andreia Stanciu, Head of ACCA – Southern Europe, to address current challenges in the profession and explore strategic collaboration opportunities for the year ahead.

As in many countries, Moldova is facing a notable decline in the number of students pursuing accounting careers. Fields perceived as more “modern” – including technology, AI, fintech, and ESG – are increasingly attracting young talent, offering faster career growth, flexibility, and innovation.

Key discussion points included:

  • The decreasing interest among youth in accounting and audit qualifications;
  • The perception of modest entry-level salaries and the demanding path to qualification;
  • How ACCA is responding to these trends globally and locally, and how our efforts can be aligned.

Looking to the future, ACAP is committed to deepening collaboration with ACCA through:

  • Developing training and awareness programs on ESG and sustainability to support new reporting requirements;
  • Promoting digital competencies and preparing professionals in AI, cybersecurity, and data governance – all increasingly vital in audit and accounting;

As the profession evolves – with accelerating digitalisation, complex ESG demands, cyber risks, and growing ethical expectations – today’s dialogue focused on actionable ways to respond, shaped by ACCA’s global strategy and Moldova’s specific needs.

Thank you, ACCA, for your openness, insights, and dedication to the future of our profession.
